MIXING RATIOS

Sernick Feedlot HPC 10% is a high-protein concentrate for finishing beef cattle. The urea levels are below 10%, which indicates a high contribution of natural protein, reducing the risk of urea poisoning.

FEEDING RECOMMENDATION:

Gradually adapt animals by offering 2 kg of feed on day 1 and increasing it by 0.5 kg per animal until they are eating ad lib. Always ensure hay or grazing is available. Feeding troughs must always be supplied with feed. If using a complete feeding system, hay may be withdrawn after the adaptation period. Make sure the animals always have access to sufficient clean drinking water. For more information on urea poisoning, see page 53. For further advice, please consult the Sernick technical staff.

Feed is only available in 50 kg bags.

UREA POISONING GUIDE

WARNING

  • These animal feeds contain urea and other NPN sources. Pellets should be fed strictly according to the directions for use.

  • Animals that are not adapted to urea rations must be fed a salt-phosphate lick for seven (7) days prior to feeding urea rations. Vinegar is an effective antidote for NPN poisoning. Mix equal parts of vinegar and water and dose half a bottle per calf or large sheep and 2–4 bottles per head of cattle (1 bottle = 750ml).

  • Protect feed from rain as NPN can dissolve in water. Animals that consume this contaminated mixture can be poisoned.

  • Do not offer this feed indiscriminately with other feeds that contain NPN.
