AGRI ADVISORS FOR THABO MOFUTSANJANA DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY TRAINS AT SERNICK

During the week of 25 July 2016 the Agri Advisors for Thabo Mofutsanjana district municipality received specialised training made possible by the Sernick Group during a 4 day workshop.

Workshops included among others, the application of licks and the basics of feedlotting by Christo Faasen from Sernick, a practical demonstration of a Bonsmara Bull as well as a 14-16 month old Bonsmara heifer by Bernard Burger from Bonsmara SA, a practical demonstration of a pregnancy test (Scanner& Hand) as seen on the photo, by Pieter Booysen from Sernick, Gerhard Schutte (CEO) from RPO, as well as Hennie Gerber from SAMIC. Various animal health companies also took part in the 4 day workshop.

Lebohang Moshwaliba, manager of agri and rural development at the Thabo Mofutsanjana district municipality was the initial drive force behind the course, stating that it’s a priority for him to better equip the agri advisors so that they can be helpful to emerging farmers.

According to Patrick Sekwatlakwatla, head of CSI and Marketing at Sernick, hosting the workshop at Sernick, and making Sernick knowledge available fits perfectly with the Sernick CSI model and Sernick’s commitment to emerging farmers in South Africa.

UREA POISONING GUIDE

WARNING

  • These animal feeds contain urea and other NPN sources. Pellets should be fed strictly according to the directions for use.

  • Animals that are not adapted to urea rations must be fed a salt-phosphate lick for seven (7) days prior to feeding urea rations. Vinegar is an effective antidote for NPN poisoning. Mix equal parts of vinegar and water and dose half a bottle per calf or large sheep and 2–4 bottles per head of cattle (1 bottle = 750ml).

  • Protect feed from rain as NPN can dissolve in water. Animals that consume this contaminated mixture can be poisoned.

  • Do not offer this feed indiscriminately with other feeds that contain NPN.

Contact the Sernick technical staff for further information and enquiries.
